Synopse

She loves machines and kills people: Julia Ducournau’s Cannes winner about an extraordinary young woman is brutal and excessive. At the same time, it is a fragile portrait of two lost souls and bodies. After suffering a serious accident, Alexia (Agathe Rousselle) has lived with a titanium plate in her head. She is obsessed with metal and motors and cannot bear human intimacy. As soon as someone gets too close to her, she turns into a brutal killer. After a series of killings, she is sought by the police, so she smashes up her face and takes on a male identity. She is taken in by the fire chief Vincent (Vincent Lindon), who thinks he sees his long-lost son in her. These two contrasting personalities come closer, thanks to an extreme connection.

Regie

Born in Paris, JULIA DUCOURNAU studied at La Fémis. Her debut film Raw (2016) established her as an important representative of queer-feminist cinema in France. Titane won the Palme D’Or in 2021 at Cannes. Her latest film Alpha (2025) was also shown there in competition.
